Abstract:
ObjectiveTo examine smoking,passive smoking and smoking cessation status among adult residents in Chengdu city of Sichuan province for developing new tobacco control measures.
MethodsRandom cluster sampling was used to select 4 994 residents aged 18-69 years in 6 urban districts of Chengdu city for a face-to-face questionnaire survey.
ResultsThe rate of smoking,passive smoking,and successful smoking cessation was 25.31% (1 264/4 994),48.78% (1 482/3 038),and 10.65% (107/1 005)among the residents.There were significant differences in the rates of smoking,passive smoking,and successful smoking cessation among the residents of different gender,age,education level,and occupation(all
P<0.001).
ConclusionThe smoking rate is low but the passive smoking rate is relatively high among adult urban residents of Chengdu city,with a low successful smoking cessation among the smokers in the urban areas of the city.
