Abstract:
Objective To study the protective effects of zinc and vitamin E on oxidative stress and endothelial cells in STZ-induced diabetic rats.
Methods Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were supplemented with zinc and vitamtn E for six weeks.Blood glucose, insulin, MDA and T-AOC in serum, plasma levels of TXB2, 6-k-PGF1α and ET were examined.
Results In diabetic rats plasma levels of TXB2 and ET were lowered while blood glucose and MDA were decreased, insulin, T-AOC and plasma levels of 6-k-PGF1α were increased by zinc and vitamin E supplement.
Conclusion Zinc and vitamin E supplementation reduced oxidative stress, influenced the plasma levels of TXB2, 6-k-PGF1α and ET, and had protective effects on endothelial cells in diabetic rats.
