Abstract:
Objective To study the effects of Lycopene(LP)on blood lipid and antioxidative enzyme in hyperlipidemic rats.
Methods Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups according to body weight and serum cholesterol levels. They were fed one of four diets, a reference diet, a high fat supplemented diet and a high fat supplemented with 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg LP.After 5 weeks, blood lipid and antioxidative enzymes capacity were determined respectively.
Results Compared with model, LP could reduced the serum TC, TG, LDL-C concentration, increased SOD and GSH-Px activities, decreased MDA content significandy(P < 0.05).
Conclusion LP might play an important role in preventing hyperlipidemia through its antioxidative effect.
